Could You Drink the World’s Largest Cup of Coffee?

October 25, 2010 By Tricia 1 Comment

Most of the time when I see coffee I don’t pay much attention because I don’t drink it. But when I saw that GourmetGiftBaskets.com was going to try to break the Guinness World Record from the World’s Largest Cup of Coffee, I had to dig a little deeper. Keep in mind that the previous record was 911.5 gallons. They were going for (and made) 2,010 gallons.

I had to start doing a little math and figure out just how much coffee that would be. My mom tells me that she is an average coffee drinker and drinks about 3 small mugs full a day. We estimated that to be 18 ounces. At that rate, she would drink 126 ounces a week. 2,010 gallons adds up to 257,280 ounces.

Even if you had a group of people, that’s a lot of coffee. Imagine setting up that cup at your next social function. Even if you invite 100 people and every person drinks a cup an hour, you and your friends would have to drink coffee for 318 hours before you would need a refill of the World’s Largest Cup of Coffee.

Assume you set up your World’s Largest Cup on a corner in New York. You hand out cups of coffee to every person that comes by and you are really fast. You can hand out 10 cups every minute. You would be standing there for 54 hours handing out coffee nonstop before you ran out! At least you would be really popular.

Check out the video below to see just how the World’s Largest Cup of Coffee was constructed and tell me how long it would take YOU to drink it. Also be sure to check out GourmetGiftBaskets.com when you start looking for holiday gifts!
