Book Review: Thoughtless

Thoughtless Book Review

It’s not often that I get completely caught up with absolutely everything on my reading list, but when I do, I go comparing reviews on Amazon and Good Reads. I had seen enough about Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens to finally give it a shot. I am incredibly happy that I did!

At over 500 pages, the book did get a bit repetitive in a few spots. But it was worth it. Here’s the official book description before I go into my own opinion:

For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender, and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together—Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university—everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart. Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes . . . and none of them will ever be the same.

As I am sure you can figure out from the description, a love triangle ensues. I guess this book could be considered Young Adult, but I think it’s more for adults of at least college age. We’re not talking 50 Shades of Grey type of material, but the relationships themselves are intense. There isn’t a lot of sex in the book but sexual tension?? Probably about 450 pages of it!

There is so much to talk about with this book, but I don’t want to give anything away that would spoil it (before my Spoiler section!). Suffice to say that it has over 4 stars on both Amazon and Goodreads. There’s a lot to it that would make it an interesting book club selection, especially if your book club is made up of close-knit girlfriends.

A sequel, Effortless, is already out on Kindle, but I am waiting for the paperback because I know my friends will want to read it as well.

Now onto my spoiler section so that those of us who have read it can talk about it! There will likely be spoilers in the comments as well. 🙂

SPOILERS! Do not keep reading if you have not read the book.

So a lot of people have criticized Kiera. I don’t really because she is only 20 years old! At 20 years old, it’s hard to know what you really want, especially when hormones are involved. I agree that she was selfish a lot of times, but most 20-year-olds are. So what are your thoughts on these?

  • Did you want her to end up with Denny or Kellan (I was all about Kellan)?
  • Do you think Denny set it all in motion or it would have happened even if he hadn’t taken the other job? (I think it probably would have still happened)
  • Do you think Kellan should forgive her even knowing she chose Kellan?
  • Should Kiera forgive Kellan for all of the screwing around he did, especially right in front of her?
  • Does Kiera deserve either one of them after the way that she played them?

I had so many mixed emotions reading this book but really could not put it down! Have you read it? What are your thoughts?
