<p>Groundhog Day was originally a German tradition, later carried on in Pennsylvania. The first official Groundhog Day was celebrated on February 2, 1886 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania in the newspaper. The faithful began gathering in Gobbler&#8217;s Knob the next year for the annual prognostication by Punxsutawney Phil.</p>
