This post brought to you by AppGear. All opinions are 100% mine.

For the longest time, my kids were not into video games of any kid. We had multiple gaming systems but my girls just didn't seem into them. Once they started playing with apps on our phones, however, that all changed. Now that they have a tablet, it seems that electronics have finally caught their attention. Because of that, I have been paying more attention myself to the types of games that they can play and how those games can go even beyond the tablets and phones.

Enter AppGear. Did you know that your kids can now integrate the games they are playing through their apps with actual collectible toys. It's hard to explain, so you should check out the videos on their site. But take for instance Foam Fighters. Your child has a foam airplane that looks just like a regular toy airplane. They install the Foam Fighters app on their phone or tablet. They can then fly that plane from inside the game app and unlock missions inside the app. They can even battle friends over Wi-Fi. Or get into the Zombie craze with ZombieBurbz, where you can choose from multiple characters such as "Dad from the Avenue" or "Zombie High Student."

Every time we see something new on our handheld devices, we ask ourselves "what next?" AppGear is what is next. It's a fun way to integrate traditional games with apps. And with a total of 6 games due out this year, there will be something for everyone. I have a feeling these are going to be hot for the 2012 holiday shopping season!

Crystal Light Margarita Review

by on April 16, 2012

Crystal Light Margarita

Crystal Light is my daily drink of choice, and margaritas are my drink of choice for post-Zumba girls’ night out. So I was ecstatic to see the Crystal Light Margarita mix at my grocery store. It’s a part of the Crystal Light Mocktails line which also includes Appletini, Peach Bellini, Mojito, and Pomtini (a couple of those you might have seen on Celebrity Apprentice).  [click to continue…]

From the day your child was born, somewhere in the back of your mind, you probably thought, “It’s time to start a college savings plan.”

Did you know that if your child has earned income, you can open a Roth IRA in your child’s name, and any funds held in this account will not count as a family asset when you apply for federal student aid? Is it possible to have no family assets when you apply for federal student aid? Yes – if you plan ahead.

If you own your own business, consider employing your child. Aside from creating the earned income to open a Roth IRA, this creates payroll, a deductible business expense (which will reduce your business income, and thus, reduce your taxes). This is a win-win-win situation. You pay less taxes, your child has a Roth IRA, and you have an excluded asset for federal student aid. [click to continue…]

I know that a lot of men read this blog, and generally most of the articles apply to men as well as women. This is one that is for the ladies only. Trust me on this. Especially if you are man who knows me, Tricia, the author personally. You want to be able to look me in the eye the next time you see me. You might not be able to if you read further. You have been warned!

50 Fifty Shades of Grey Gray

What Is Fifty Shades of Grey?

I first heard about Fifty Shades of Grey from my Zumba group and was shocked to not be “in the know” about a book! So I immediately started doing some research. The short backstory of the book is that it allegedly began as Twilight fan fiction called Master of the Universe. Because of that, you will see a lot of similarities between Fifty Shades and Twilight. Anastasia Steele is awkward, naive, and self-conscious. Christian Grey is rich, sophisticated, and “dark” for reasons we will not learn until later. They are thrown together and feel immediate attraction. Christian tries to warn Ana off but she will not listen. Sound familiar? [click to continue…]

eMeals Review (Guest Post)

by on March 27, 2012

If your household is anything like mine, you may find yourself in an endless cycle of the same meals. Tacos, spaghetti, hot dogs, tortellini, breakfast dinner… when you find something the kids will eat (and not complain about), you stick with it. While the kids love this meal plan, I grew sick of it. Then I saw eMeals.

What's for dinner?
