The Girlfriends' Guide to Toddlers

by Vicki Iovine

If you are like me, you always think that you must be the only mother who has a child who does something as bizarre as sticking Nerds candy up her nose. But then you read a book like this one and all of a sudden realize that you are in good company.

From the time I became pregnant with my first child, I have been addicted to Vicki Iovine's books. She has such an honest, humorous way of presenting issues that can be embarrassing or awkward to talk to other moms about.

Although I've read this book once before, I find myself going back to it as my "baby" enters her terrible twos. Sometimes I swear that Iovine wrote this book just for me. Temper tantrums and potty training become a big part of your life when you have a toddler underfoot. Iovine doesn't claim to have all the answers when it comes to child rearing, but she helps you feel good about not having all of the answers yourself.

This is definitely a bath-time book for me. No, not my daughters' bath-time--my own! After a day of cleaning cereal up off the carpet and crayon marks off the walls, it is a nice distraction. If you are the parent of a toddler and could use a "Girlfriend" around to give you a chuckle and help put toddlerhood into perspective (it really does end eventually), give Iovine a chance.
