Because the original Willy Wonka was one of my favorite movies when I was younger, I decided to do a little research!

The New MovieCharlie and the Chocolate Factory

Notice the slight change in the movie title. This new title is actually the same title as the book on which the original movie was based (more on that later). Johnny Depp stars as the eccentric Willy Wonka. The official movie website is http://chocolatefactorymovie.warnerbros.com. Depp pairs up again with director Tim Burton in this somewhat dark childrens movie. Opening on July 15, it will be released in select cities in IMAX.

The Original Book

Both the old and new movies are based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Puffin Novels) by Roald Dahl. Why is it great? First, as a mom, I am constantly interrupted. I can pause my show and answer the phone, put a kid to bed, check email, whatever! Second, I dont feel quite as guilty watching my favorite shows when I can zip through the commercials and credits. Third, as a sports lover, I do not have to depend on the network to show me the replays that I want to see.

How does it work? There are two main features that I use. The first is the pause feature where I can stop any program immediately and it will hold for up to 30 minutes so that I can catch up. The second feature that I use the most is the recording feature. I can simply pick a show from the menu guide and hit record. Gone are the VCR days of having to figure out what time and a day a show are on to record them. In addition, I can set up a season pass to record any new (or repeats, my choice) of a particular series.

Be it CSI, Las Vegas, or Dora the Explorer, there is always something recorded when I want to watch it. Im sure there are plenty of mom critics who dont watch television to begin with. But for those who do, TiVo will save you time!
