Fishers A.M.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
New today, January 14, 2005, Fishers A.M. is making its debut in
Fishers. This is a new Indianapolis Star publication for Fishers
ONLY. That’s right, there is finally a newspaper dedicated to our
community. Over the last 25 years we have grown from a quiet suburb of
2000 to a population of more than 52,000 people. Fishers continues to
retain its focus on families, neighborhoods, schools, along with
beautiful parks and playing fields, and it’s time we had a weekly
newspaper to highlight our accomplishments.
I was so excited to review the first
issue found on my doorstep this morning. Take a look at your copy.
Inside you will find information about schools, businesses and church
organizations. There are tons of advertisements and coupons along side
articles about recent real estate transactions and emergency police and
fire activity. Feature articles in this issue including details on the
Allisonville Road expansion, an introduction to The Promise, a new
United Methodist Church on 116th Street, and HSE S.P.O.R.T.S.
I was also pleased that some
recurring weekly articles will include Our Faces, Our Places, Fishers
Newcomer, and Community Voices. Each is focused on the people of this
community whether they are business owners, new residents or featured
citizens. If you live in Fishers, I’m sure you will find something
inside that interests you. After years of being overwhelmed by the
Indianapolis Star and all of the “big city” news, I am delighted to see
Fishers A.M.

Fishers Weekly A day after Angie wrote her
article on the Fishers A.M., I received a copy of a different
newspaper, the Fishers Weekly! Like Angie, I was excited to see a
newspaper that targeted the people in my neighborhood.
While technically I have a Noblesville address, I do
actually live in Fishers. After the postal service changes in July, it
will be official! So it is particularly exciting to see this now.
The tagline at the top of the paper says it all--"Your
local newspaper -- we are all about you." The paper is full of
information about local events, the schools, announcements,
and sports.
In the second week of the newspaper, Conner Prairie's
Hearthside Suppers are featured, along with pictures and a menu. If you
are at all interested in attending these, it is a great article to check
out.
The newspaper contains a good ratio of advertisements to
articles, something that I always look out for! There's also a Community
Calendar section with free listings. Fishers Weekly also contains a fair
amount of regional and national coverage, although the local coverage
appears on the front page and more prominently than the regional and
national coverage.
The Fishers Weekly reminds me of the county newspaper
that I had growing up in Southern Indiana except with much better
content. The reporters seem in touch with local events, and you will
find everything from ball sign-ups to school lunch menus.
The Fishers Weekly can be found online at
www.fishersweekly.com. It is
distributed on Saturdays for 50 cents but is currently free.
